Traditional education is expensive. Online learning is ineffective. And neither adequately prepare you for the job. The data is clear and compelling. But it’s not just about the numbers. We believe that the most important part of the learning process has nothing to do with books or bandwidths. The human connection - that face-to-face interaction between expert and apprentice, mentor and mentee, teacher and student - is where true learning happens. And the best way to activate that learning is through in-person, hands-on experience. Classroom lectures, tired textbooks and online videos just aren't cutting it. They are ineffective, insufficient and unexciting.
We believe that people need a new path for learning – one that leverages the benefits of technology without sacrificing the power of humanity. One that's better, faster and more cost-effective. One that’s accessible to anyone - no matter who you are, or where you come from, or how much money you have.
We’ve spent the past three years working hard to create that solution, combining in-depth research with heartfelt conversation. We spoke with thousands of people across the country about their hopes and dreams and challenges and struggles. And the consensus was that the current system isn’t working for a lot of you. So we’ve dedicated our company to building what we believe will truly help - our Besomebody Paths.
There is nothing else in the world like them. Nothing that works backwards, starting with the end in mind; focusing on skills and jobs instead of grades and degrees. But we don’t imagine we’ll be alone in this pursuit for very long. With nearly 6 million open jobs in this country, but only 20% of applicants possessing the skills needed to get those jobs, a new Path is needed, and necessary. And with the student debt bubble on the verge of bursting, the time is now.
We call our approach “LEEP” - learning via experiential, employment-driven paths. We’re proud to pioneer this model, but we invite others to join us on this mission. The more options people have the better. Education and employment are team sports.
Personally, I have never been more passionate about anything in my life. As a college grad who did well in school but learned much, much more outside the lecture halls - from part-time jobs and extracurriculars and philanthropy and mentors and travel and internships - I have lived it. And so many of my family members and peers and role models have lived it too. We all spent a lot of time and money and effort, just to realize we could have done things a lot differently if only we knew better. If only someone had showed us a different direction. Well, today, we want to be that somebody… We are building that path.
It won’t be easy. Anything of value never is. But with your support, I know we’ll get there. And I can’t wait to see what we create along the way.
